Ruth Walker

“As Human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world… as in being able to remake ourselves.” Mahatma Gandhi

Ruth was inspired to teach yoga after experiencing the transforming power of daily yoga practice for herself. Following a successful career in clinical psychology she is now devoting her life to assisting people to reach their potential in physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health through her teaching, which integrates yoga, mindfulness and her vast experience of personal development coaching.

Ruth has been privileged to study with David Keil, world renowned Ashtanga Yoga and Yoga Anatomy teacher; Shiva Rea, one of yoga's most respected international teachers in the Vinyasa Flow method; Julie Hanson and June Mitchell, Directors of CYS-Scotland, and with whom she attained her certificate in yoga teaching. Ruth has attended workshops with the Guru of Ashtanga Yoga, Sri K Pattabhi Jois and Paul Dallaghan, Authorized Ashtanga teacher. Inspired by Master Dave Bailey of Central Taekwondo Academy, she has begun training in the Korean Martial Art of Taekwondo.

It is Ruth’s dedication to her own personal yoga, mindfulness and martial arts practices, and her ability to integrate these systems of personal development that are expressed through her teaching, bringing diverse disciplines and communities together in the true spirit of yoga, which is union. Ruth wishes to share her vast knowledge and experience with the community, helping people to enjoy a life of excellent health and vitality.

Alison McCullie

“The key to good living is work-life balance; finding time for you as well as others. Yoga helps you restore this balance within yourself and within your life.”

Alison began practicing yoga 30 years ago following the birth of her son. As well as the physical benefits of toning the body, yoga offered respite from the demands of motherhood and family life and Alison soon came to appreciate the sense of peace that yoga practice created within her. Alison believes the key to good living is work-life balance, incorporating time for yourself as well as time for others; and that many people struggle to find this balance in our modern fast-paced culture. “Attending yoga class” says Alison, “offers an opportunity for ‘me time’ and for achieving this balance for living”.

It was her personal experience of the benefits of yoga that prompted Alison’s desire to share these benefits with others. And so her decision to teach yoga is grounded in a fervent belief in the power of yoga to restore balance to the body and soul. Calmness of mind, strength of character, self-acceptance, patience, humility and open-mindedness are some of the changes that Alison has witnessed in her own life and wishes others to experience. Alison’s most recent influence for her yoga practice is leading Scottish Yoga Teacher and Energy Coach, Julie Hanson, from whom Alison gains inspiration for her teaching as well as her personal practice. You can enjoy Alison’s warm and friendly teaching style at her community class in Reddingmuirhead or as a member of JJB sports health club, where she encourages you to spend some ‘me time’, away from the demands of family and work life and benefit from the balance and confidence that yoga brings to your life.
